This Week’s Favourites–21 August 2009

  (by )

This week, our favourites include great resources to help you optimise your site for search engines, find cool (and free!) Photoshop brushes, create a lifestream, get free stock photography, and download free and unique fonts!

SEO (search engine optimisation) is one of the keys to having a successful website, because it can help your site get more visitors and increase your page rank and search engine ranking.  SEOmoz offers free and premium guides to internet marketing, SEO, and blogging, making it easily one of the best SEO resources on the web.  SEOmoz also offers free SEO tools, including Term Target, which can tell you how targeted your website is for a certain keyword.

You can’t ever have enough Photoshop brushes, especially when sites like BrushKing offer great sets of brushes for free.  This is an awesome resource for a wide range of new and interesting brushes for Photoshop.  You can also submit your own brushes to BrushKing, making it a great site for designers who want to share their work with others!

Want an easy way to consolidate all of your content from different social networking sites into a single profile?  Then sign up for a free account with storytlr and combine your status updates, pictures, and playlist to create your lifestream.  storytlr offers a range of templates for you to choose from, and you can use your own domain or get a website on the domain.

What makes DesignPacks different from most of the other free stock photo sites is that all of the images are part of different collections of 15 photos which share a common theme.  For example, the Flower collection contains 15 different photos of various flowers which users can download for personal and commercial projects.  There are some restrictions on how the images can be used, so be sure to read the terms and conditions first.

Abstract Fonts

If you love fonts, then you should check out Abstract Fonts.  Currently, they have over 12,000 free fonts, and new fonts are being added all the time.  They offer fonts for tons of different languages, and all of the fonts are well categorized, making it easy to find the font you’re looking for.  If you have some fonts you want to share with others, you can submit your own fonts to Abstract Fonts.
