This tutorial provides you with screenshots and easy to follow instructions for every step of the installation process. Just follow along, and you’ll have OpenCart installed in minutes!

Login to your cPanel and type “softaculous” in the find box.  The Softaculous icon will appear to the right of the box.

Next, click the Install button.

On the next page, you will need to configure your installation.

The Software Setup section allows you to control various aspects of your OpenCart installation.  The Choose Protocol dropdown allows you to configure the URL you want people to use to access your store, such as https:// for sites with SSL certificates  and http:// for sites without SSLs.

The Choose Domain dropdown allows you to choose where you install OpenCart.  If you have multiple domains in your cPanel account, then you will need to select the desired domain from the Choose Domain dropdown.

If you want people to be able to access your OpenCart installation by simply visiting your domain name, then leave the In Directory field blank.  However, if you want people to access your OpenCart installation by visiting a URL like www.yourdomain.com/store, then you should type store in the In Directory field.

Unless you need your database to have a specific name, you can use the default name in the Database Name field.

The Store Settings section allows you to add your store’s name, description, owner, and address.  This information will be displayed on your site and in emails, and you can update it later via the admin area of your store.

Unless you want your OpenCart installation to use a specific table prefix, you can use the default value in the Table Prefix field.

The Admin Account section allows you to configure various aspects of your admin account.

You can enter the username, password, and email address for the admin area of your OpenCart site.  Please do not use “admin” or “administrator” as the username for the admin area of your site, as this will make your installation vulnerable to hackers.  Also, please choose a strong password for the admin area of your site to help make your website as secure as possible.  Make a note of your username and password; you will use these details to login to the admin area of your site.  The admin email address for your site is where all messages regarding updates, password resets, etc. will be sent.

Finally, enter your first and last names in the respective fields, and click the Install button.

Once you’ve successfully installed OpenCart, you will be able to login to the admin area of your site by clicking the admin URL.

I have read many complaints by people who couldn’t get used to OpenCart, they were mostly saying that it is too hard to install and customize. My experience with OpenCart was quite different. I find it a great piece of software which is easy to install (especially when you can use one-click auto-installer) and not so hard to customize. And there are plenty freelance developers who are ready to jump in if advanced customization is needed.
