Free jQuery Joomla Extensions

  (by )

jQuery allows users to create some impressive web effects with only a few lines of code, and there are some great (and free!) Joomla extensions that incorporate this lightweight JavaScript Library!

jQuery can enhance the appearance and functionality of many aspects of your Joomla site, so I chose several of my favourite jQuery extensions for Joomla, including extensions to help you showcase images,  radically alter your website’s menu, incorporate Twitter into your site, and create an FAQ section!

Galleria

If you’re a photographer or designer who uses Joomla to showcase your work, then you should definitely check out Galleria!  Galleria is a JavaScript image gallery that will load images from an unordered list and automatically create and display thumbnails each time an image loads. This extension is extremely easy to implement, and it will make a great addition to almost any Joomla website.

tweet!

If you love Twitter and Joomla, then this is the extension for you! tweet! is a JavaScript plugin that enables you to easily incorporate Twitter into your Joomla website. With tweet!, you can display up to 100 tweets from your own Twitter feed or a Twitter search. You can also display your own Twitter avatar and tweets from multiple accounts, and tweet! includes automatic linking of URLs and optional verb tense matching.

jTabs

If you’re looking for a free and simple way to add a little interest to your Joomla site, then jTabs is just what you’ve been searching for!  jTabs allows you to create jQuery Tabs and Accordion Menus using simple Joomla modules and HTML, making it a great extension for people with little technical knowledge.  jTabs will give your site a more dynamic appearance, and it’s great for sites with large amounts of content.

JFlickr

JFlickr is another great extension for Joomla users who love taking photographs!  JFlickr will display a Flickr gallery on your Joomla site, and you can control the number of images you want to display at one time, the size of the image thumbnail, and the size the image will be after a user clicks the thumbnail.  JFlickr is very easy to install and implement, and it’s a great extension for amateur and professional photographers!

Superfish Dropdown Menu

If you want to use a Suckerfish-style dropdown menu to enhance the appearance and usability of your site’s navigation, then Superfish Dropdown Menu is the right extension for you!  This extension comes with tons of configuration options, including intelligent mouseover handling, fade in, slide in, shadows, vertical menu, and much more, so you can create a dropdown menu that meets the needs of your Joomla site!

JE Slide Show

Image slide shows are a surefire way to make your Joomla website pop, and the JE Slide Show extension is a free and easy way to display a horizontal image slide show on your site!  This is a great extension for photographers and designers who want to show off their work, but JE Slide Show can also be used by news and business sites that want to draw their visitors’ attention to a particular article or product.

JB FAQ

If your site has a Frequently Asked Questions section, then you definitely need to check out FB FAQ!  This extension enables you to create an unlimited number of questions and answers using jQuery and your Joomla site’s content.  Plus, FB FAQ allows you to place buttons to open or close all of the questions at the top or the bottom of your FAQ list, so your site’s visitors can quickly locate the information they’re looking for!
