Ecommerce WordPress Plugins

  (by )

If you use WordPress for your personal or professional blog or website, then you know just how easy it is to use.  With so many free and premium themes and plugins available for WordPress, users of this software application have been able to create some truly dynamic and attractive sites.  Over the last few years, developers have decided to take WordPress one step further by creating free and premium ecommerce plugins, making it possible for people without a lot of technical knowledge to have their very own online stores.

We’ve rounded up some of our favourite ecommerce plugins for WordPress, including shopping cart applications and plugins that will allow you to send invoices or accept donations using your WordPress site or blog.

WP e-Commerce

This plugin is a shopping cart application which enables you to sell downloadable and shippable items using WordPress.  WP e-Commerce is compatible with WordPress 2.7-2.8.2 and allows you to accept payments using multiple payment gateways, including Paystation, PayPal, Payment Express, Authorize.net, and Google Checkout.  Plus, WP e-Commerce uses one-page checkout, enabling your customers to purchase products quickly and easily.  This plugin comes with multiple store front styles, allowing you to change the appearance of your online store just by clicking a few buttons.

WordPress Simple PayPal Shopping Cart

With this plugin, you an easily put a customisable ‘Add to Cart’ button on any of your WordPress blog’s pages, posts, or sidebar, enabling you to sell your products or services online.  The WordPress Simple PayPal Shopping Cart plugin allows you to accept payment using PayPal, and it offers support for multiple currencies, making it possible for you to sell goods and services to customers around the world.  Plus, this plugin lets your customers view the items currently in their shopping cart, as well as remove or add items.

Shopp

At $55 for a single site license, Shopp enables you to turn your WordPress blog or website into an online store, and it includes great features such as search engine optimised shopping pages, dashboard widgets for marketing and sales tracking, product image galleries, low-stock email alerts, and  one-page product data entry.  This plugin allows you to accept payments from customers via PayPal, Google Checkout, and 2Checkout.com, and you can purchase additional payment gateways add-ons for this plugin (priced at $25 each).  The Shopp plugin for WordPress simplifies shipping calculations with global and domestic shipping rates and tiered rates based on weight, quantity, or a flat rate, with add-ons available for FedEx and UPS shipping rates (priced at $25 each).  You can also create tons of different promos, including free shipping, flat amount discounts, and percentage discounts.

PayPal Donations

This plugin allows you to add a PayPal donation shortcode and sidebar Widget to your WordPress blog or website, enabling you to accept donations from your site’s visitors.  The PayPal Donations plugin is compatible with WordPress 2.7-2.8.4, and you can design your own donation button or choose from the multiple donation buttons provided.  This plugin also includes options for localisation, currency, the return page, and custom payment page style, allowing you to tailor your donation button to your unique needs.

Web Invoice

This plugin enables you to send invoices to your customers using your WordPress blog or website.  Web Invoice allows you to receive payment using several payment gateways, including PayPal, Authorize.net, MerchantPlus NaviGate, AlertPay, and Moneybookers.  To bill a client, you just create an invoice in your WP admin area, and an email with a short message and a unique link is sent to your customer.  Then, your client clicks the link to get to your blog’s invoice page, views their invoice, and pays their bill.

ArtPal

If you’re an artist who wants to sell their unique work online, then this is the perfect WordPress plugin for you!  The ArtPal plugin integrates the payment gateway PayPal into your WordPress blog or website, making it fast and easy for you to sell your pieces on the web.  Because a lot of artists sell one-of-a-kind artwork, this plugin disables an item as soon as it’s sold, preventing you from selling a unique piece more than once.  Be aware that ArtPal assumes items are one-of-a-kind, so the overhead that handles tracking stock has been eliminated.

WP Auctions

Want to auction off items on your WordPress blog or website?  Then download WP Auctions, a plugin that can place auctions on your WordPress pages and posts, allowing you to sell your products to the highest bidder.  For $39.99, you can get the Gold version of WP Auctions, which allows you to receive payment for items via PayPal, cheques, and wire transfers, is compatible with Google Adsense, enables you to sell items on a “Buy it Now” basis, and lets you choose from 5 different colour styles.

Thanks for such a thorough rundown. I use e-commerce systems to sell fine gold jewelry and have always wondered if Shopp is worth the charge. Now I’ll have to consider a few new inspirations too.

I use Shopp right now. Its a pretty good plugin, but it is a little buggy. The support team is pretty decent though so it all works out.

I’ve been very happy with the YAK plugin. Frankly it makes most of the other plugins on this list redundant. What I’m really looking for is an ecommerce plugin that also handles multiple currencies. I sell a lot of products internationally and I’m looking for a plugin that will show my customers a price in the currency local to their IP – if that’s possible…?
