Guide to Installing WordPress Plugins!
Posted by: Cat M. // // May 23rd, 2009 // WordPress
WordPress Plugins are a great (and free!) way to enhance the functionality and appearance of your web site, and the installation process is quick and simple!
The first step is finding the WordPress plugin you want to add to your site. The WordPress Plugin Directory offers tons of free plugins to take your web site or blog to the next level (or check out our blog on 16 of the best plugins for WordPress). Once you find plugin you want, download it, and save the file to your computer (you don’t need to unzip the file before uploading it to WordPress). Now, just login to your WordPress admin area.
Enter username and password and click “Log In”

Click “Plugins”

Click “Add New”

Click “Browse” to find the .zip file for the plugin, select the file, and click “Install Now”

If you want to activate the plugin now, just click “Activate Plugin”

You should see the new plugin listed under “Currently Active Plugins”

That’s it! You’ve successfully installed a WordPress plugin!

Great guide for newbies. Very simple and easy to follow.
Thanks for the guide. Another thing to make it easier to install plugins is to install a plugin ( how ironic ) called one click plugin updater. you can then install plugins by just entering the url of the zip file and clicking install.
Before installation, make sure your connection is good, be careful and always run each phase installation.
Thanks for that tip! I’m sure other users will appreciate it!
Hi, Great Post Thanks.:)
I didn’t’ know you could locate and upload plugins right from the admin panel. I guess I never thought to look. I just checked mu version of WordPress and I guess I need to upgrade cause I can’t do any of the things you list here.
