This Week’s Favourites – 10 July 2009

This week’s favourite sites consist of a free creative applications suite, a URL shortener that helps you promote your links, a site that lets you create your own social network, a new resource for WordPress users, and an application for saving a copy of a dynamically generated web page.

1.  Aviary

Aviary is a set of free creative applications that you can use right in your web browser.  Currently, Aviary offers an image editor, effects editor, swatch editor, vector editor, and an image markup application.  Plus, they have over 70 step-by-step tutorials covering topics like background cloning, enhancing eyes, compositional cropping, and much more!

2.  Su.pr

Su.pr is a URL shortener that helps you post your content to Twitter, Facebook, and StumbleUpon, thus helping you get a larger audience for your content. You just type your message, enter the URL of the content you want to share, click ‘post’, and your message and the shortened URL are posted.  Su.pr also provides you with tools that tell you the best time to submit posts, schedule future posts, and view data on the traffic, tweets, and clicks for your posts.

3.  Ning

If you like social networks like Facebook, Twitter, and Digg, then why not create your own with Ning?  Ning is free to join and use, and it’s a great way to meet people who share your interests.  Over 1 million social networks have been created using Ning, and the site currently has over 27 million registered members!

4.  Digging into WordPress

If you use WordPress for your blog or website, then you should check out the new site Digging into WordPress.  Run by web designers/developers Chris Coyier and Jeff Starr, Digging into WordPress offers lots of helpful tutorial and tips for scripting and designing for WordPress, making it a great site for beginners and experienced users!

5.  iterasi

If you’ve ever bookmarked an article or a product only to find that the page was no longer there when you went back to read it, then you should check out iterasi.  iterasi is a free web application that lets you save a copy of a dynamically generated web page, not just a link that might not work when you try to use it.
