Best Firefox Add-ons for Bloggers

Posted by: Cat M. // // August 25th, 2009 // Web Development

As a blogger, I know firsthand how time consuming researching and writing blog posts can be;  fortunately, I have found some great add-ons for Firefox that help make blogging faster and easier!

There are tons of great Firefox Add-ons for blogging, so it was hard for me to choose just 10 of my favourites.  If you have a favourite add-on that you use for blogging, then please mention it in the comments section!

Screengrab

If you’re looking for a simple and easy way to create screenshots, then you need to download the Firefox Add-on Screengrab.  Screengrab allows you to take a screenshot of an entire web page, only the visible portion, or the whole window.  You can also select just a portion of the web page to copy or save, which will save you the hassle of editing the image.

ScribeFire Blog Editor

Want an easier way of posting to your blog?  Then check out ScribeFire Blog Editor, the perfect Firefox Add-on for bloggers with several websites. ScribeFire is integrated with your browser, allowing you to post to multiple blogs, upload images, make notes, and drag and drop formatted text from the sites you’re browsing.  Plus, this add-on supports all of the major blogging services, including Blogger and WordPress, so it will work with almost any blog.

Shareaholic

Want a quick and easy way to share links from your favourite blogs or your very own?  Then download Shareaholic, a Firefox Add-on which enables you to email, share, or bookmark web pages using 60+ bookmarking, social networking, email, and blogging services.  Shareholic can save you a lot of time you might have otherwise wasted by going to all of your favourite sites, leaving you with more time to spend on your blog!

Read It Later

Are your bookmarks overflowing with links that you saved to use once in a post but will probably never visit again?  Then you need Read It Later, a Firefox Add-on which will help you keep your bookmarks to a minimum.  With Read It Later, you save links to a reading list which you can read at your leisure–online AND offline.  You can also sync your reading list with multiple computers, so you can check out the links when you’re at home or in the office.

Share Video

Are you a video blogger?  Then you need Share Video, and add-on for Firefox which allows you to easily post videos to your blog.  This add-on works with Vodpod.com, a site which allows you to collect videos from any site that offers Flash video and an embed code for sharing.  Share Video allows you to add videos to your free Vodpod collection and post them to your blog automatically, all with the click of a button!

MyWords

Do you spend a lot of time typing the same words or phrases over and over again?  Then check out MyWords, a Firefox Add-on bloggers are sure to love!  With MyWords, you save your most commonly used words and phrases to a database, and then you just select the right word or phrase and paste it into your text editor.  This add-on also has an autocomplete feature:  just type the first few letters of a word, and the add-on will autocomplete your phrase using your saved phrases database.

Glydo

If your blog requires you to do a lot of research, then you need to download Glydo.  Glydo is an add-on for Firefox that can automatically determine what you’re looking for and helps you find it!  Glydo will recommend videos, news stories, blogs, webpages, information from Wikipedia, and Tweets from Twitter related to the keywords your searching, helping you discover diverse and unique information to make your blog posts even better!

Share Buttons

Social networking sites like Digg, Facebook, and Twitter can really help your blog gain more exposure and visitors, so you need to make it easy for the readers of your blog to add your posts to these sites.  Share Buttons, an add-on for Firefox, will place sharing buttons for all of the major social networking sites at the bottom of your blog posts.  With the click of a button, users will be able to help you attract more visitors and increase traffic to your blog!

LeechBlock

When you use your computer for work and leisure, it’s all too easy to spend an hour browsing a website instead of working on your latest blog article.  If you want a cool Firefox Add-on to help you stay on task, then you need to get LeechBlock.  With LeechBlock you can choose to block time-wasting websites during certain hours (i.e., 9-5), or after a particular period of time (i.e., 15 minutes), which means you spend less time updating your status and more time writing an article for your company’s blog.

SEO Workers Web Page SEO Analysis Tool

Writing entertaining, unique, and useful content is vital to increasing traffic to your blog, but optimising your site for search engines is also extremely important.  SEO Workers Web Page SEO Analysis Tool is a Firefox Add-on that will analyze your blog and tell you if it is search engine friendly.  This add-on looks at your blog’s meta tags, keywords, URLs, and headers, and provides you with results you can use to SEOize your site.  This is a great add-on for any blogger who is interested in getting more visitors to their website!

  5. Nice post! I really liked the “shareaholic” add-on. I do not have a blog but I use SEO tools sometimes for my website. If you liked the SEO worker tool you should try http://www.similarweb.com. The add-on finds similar sites to the ones you are currently on, similar articles and several more applications. Have you heard about it? What do you think?
